Installation Overview

Please read these instructions, completely, before starting.

The installation is done mostly from the side of the bike with the seat and side covers off.

Items you may need are something that resemble the following:
  • long (8-10”) straight edge screwdriver
  • Phillips screwdriver
  • regular pliers
  • needle nose pliers
  • large file
  • 10” long adjustable wrench
  • long thin narrow kitchen knife
  • long flat piece of bendable metal (9”x1”x1/8”) with no sharp edges
  • a Dremel tool or something that will cut the base of the seat
  • a 6" block of dense foam rubber, a 10-12” square, clean shop rag or old washcloth will due
  • a large towel or blanket (not wife's dress)

Please note that the instructions are for a seat with an existing 1"x3" access hole in the bottom. For seats without an existing hole, please refer to, modifying your seat, for help before continuing with installation.

When referring to the left, right, top, bottom, front, back or side, it is in relation to the seat being on the bike in riding position.

Placement of the device is preferably located at dead center where you sit on the seat. It is most noticeable and comfortable in this location. Installing the device too far forward may cause the unit to operate less effectively, as a result.

If, at any time, these instructions are unclear, please stop immediately and e-mail us for assistance at sales@blinkerbuddy.com.
Please include your phone number, available hours and what time zone you are in. Make sure you elaborate on each question and include as much detail as possible.

Device wiring

Now the easy part. The wire is run from the seat area down to behind the right “side” cover. Carefully remove the side cover (see owners manual) and put it someplace safe. Start by running the wire from the seat area down, to make the connection below. Use the zip ties to hold the wire at both ends so it doesn’t hang anywhere.
Be sure the wire doesn’t get pinched or left in an area where it may get damaged or melted. The device comes with plenty of wire attached to it. You will need to leave some slack under the seat so removal will be easily accomplished in the future.

The wires from the device connect to the Orange and Lt. Blue colored wires. (Fig. 3) The bike wires are in the big, clear, rubber, connection protector thing under the side cover.  Each of the two wires has it’s own plastic connector. Right below the “rubber cover” thing, there is a black plastic box with wires on it that it is in your way and can be moved. There are two tabs underneath it. Reach under the mount and squeeze the tabs while lifting the box and move it away. Push the large, rubber cover up out of the way. Connect the device one wire at a time. Use some needle nose pliers to grab the metal connector on the wire from below, and with your other hand, hold the wire connector from the top and gently pull the connector apart. A slight twist will help. Look carefully at the bare metal end that came out of the bottom of the connector. There is a hole going through it to the tip. Slide the device wire up in the hole till the stripped end is sticking ¼” out the tip, (half of what is stripped will stick out). Fold the bare wire down against the connector and insert it back into it’s other half as it was before. Once again, using the needle nose pliers will help to push it back in. Make sure it goes all the way in. Now, repeat with the other wire. Polarity is not an issue. It will work either way. Be sure the device wire stays in place while each connector is going back together.

There are also squeeze type connectors included if you want to use them instead. They have a straight through wire slot for the wire on the bike to go in and a dead end wire slot for the wire you are adding. You do not strip the wires for this type of connector so you must cut the bare part off. Place the wires in and use the pliers to squeeze the metal connector down into the crimp and flip the top over to lock it.

The wire should now be secured and attached everywhere and considered “done”.
Plug the connectors together under the seat and loop the wire in a circle while positioning the seat carefully and locking it down.
Be sure not to pinch the wire under the seat.

Get on the bike, start it up and turn on the signal switch. You will feel the device buzzing, on and off, in sync with the signal lights. The device is less noticeable when the bike is not running. If you have to make adjustments, do it now and do it carefully.

If it ever fails to operate, but your signals are still working, check the wire for damage resulting in a break in the wire.
If the fuse for the signals blows, check the wire for damage resulting in a “short circuit”.

Relax though…
You will never leave your signals on again.
